How to protect concrete from salt damage.

Salt penetrates into the pores and capilliaries of concrete and during subsequent freeze-thaw cycles it causes spalling of the concrete which results in divots in the surface of the concrete surface. To reduce these effects you should seal your concrete with a densifier/hardener which will reduce the amount of salt penetration into the concrete.

Concrete Sealer X-1 is densifier/hardener which will protect your driveway against the damaging effects of freeze/thaw cycles which occur when salt is spread on icy roads and then tracked up your driveway. Test data carried out to determine chloride permeability (AASHTO T-277-83) and chloride penetration (NCHRP 244) proved the beneficial effects of Concrete Sealer X-1 and this data is shown in the Technical Data Sheet (TDS) next to the product.

NCHRP 244 showed that 30% less salt was absorbed into the treated  concrete compared to an untreated sample and AASHTO T-277-83 showed a 32% improvement after 28 days compared to an untreated sample.
